“Still I Rise.” The words on the back of Lewis Hamilton’s helmet – and tattooed across his shoulders – perfectly capture the spirit of his journey. Ever since he stunned the world with one of the greatest rookie seasons in Formula 1 history back in 2007, Hamilton has done exactly that: risen, again and again.
He climbed past his hero Ayrton Senna to top the all-time pole position rankings, surpassed the legendary Michael Schumacher in victories, and ultimately matched the German’s record of seven world championships. It is no surprise that his name is a constant presence in any discussion about the greatest driver of all time.
But Hamilton reached this level entirely on his own terms. Alongside his relentless speed, he broke the mold of what a racing driver is expected to say, wear or represent. He evolved into a global figure whose influence touches motorsport, fashion, culture, activism and social causes.
Respect in Formula 1 is earned on the track, and Hamilton – now Sir Lewis Hamilton – commands it from every rival on the grid. Because they all know that no matter the circuit, weather or pressure, once the visor drops and the lights go out… it is unmistakably Hammertime.
