Fernando Alonso: talent, experience and hunger for victory
In the early 2000s, Michael Schumacher dominated Formula 1 with a frequency of wins and championships that was almost unprecedented. Toppling the Ferrari legend required someone extraordinary, and Fernando Alonso proved he was exactly that.
Highly competitive and self-assured, Alonso has never hidden his talent, rating himself nine out of ten “in everything.” Few would disagree, as his performances have always combined blistering speed, exceptional tactical thinking, sharp racecraft, attention to detail, and an unrelenting determination to win.
Early in his career, Alonso broke record after record, becoming the youngest polesitter, race winner, and world champion with Renault. Even so, in later years, despite stints at McLaren and Ferrari, he was unable to add another championship to his collection, while maintaining an extraordinary level of performance on track.
After two years away from Formula 1, and with two Le Mans victories under his belt, Alonso returned with Alpine in 2021, showing that his speed and determination remained undiminished. Despite strong results, car reliability issues and the absence of a long-term contract led him to move once again.
With eight podiums in his first season at Aston Martin and becoming the first driver to reach 400 Grand Prix starts, Alonso now looks to 2025 with the arrival of legendary engineer Adrian Newey, aiming to finally return to winning ways. Formula 1 still holds unfinished business for him, and Alonso is determined to settle the score.
